Blogging Blues...

Stumbled across this on Femi's blog.

It seemed to be a reflection of my own blogging experience. Anyways, Noticed he hadnt blogged since last year.
Waiting for the next blogapologies...

In typical Femi fashion...

First, I make 1 blog,

then I leave for like ages,

then I come back all remorseful promising to be a a faithful blogger

then a relapse into an even deeper bout of blogger oblivion

This time there are no promises that I won't get missing in action. Apparently getting missing in action may be a part of my genetic make up. I just am inspired to blog about some things that either came my way or I stumbled into recently. They range from websites, to online products, to books, to people, to events, to music etc.

May the bloggers' God help me to keep faithful to this inspiration to share with all those who take time to read this blog, the kool things that have inspired me and kept me looking forward to tommorrow.

AMEN!!!

Is this what has become of South Africa...?

Rioters wield weapons in Johannesburg, South Africa

A mob chant at police, unseen, near a squatter settlement east of Johannesburg, Monday, 19 May 2008, in an attempt to quell anti-foreigner violence which has erupted in and around the city

Many Nigerians were reportedly killed in South Africa yesterday following fast-spreading riots against foreigners in the country.

Also, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported yesterday that at least five people have been burnt or beaten to death in Johannesburg as violence against immigrants spreads.

A Nigerian who lives in South Africa told THISDAY yesterday that the xenophobic attacks were launched against Nigerians while many of them were either in church or on their way to church.

The areas where Nigerians were most affected are Hillbrow and Yeovil as the riots spread to the Johannesburg city centre.

Many Nigerians were said to have been dragged out of buses and beaten to death while the security agents appeared not to intervene.

More than 50 other people were taken to hospital in the suburb of Cleveland with stab or bullet wounds, the BBC reported, noting that the trouble began a week ago in the sprawling township of Alexandra.

Immigrants from neighbouring African countries were set upon by men with guns and iron bars chanting "kick the foreigners out" as terrified Zimbabweans, Mozambicans and Malawians fled to the safety of the local police station and to another township, Diepsloot.

They were then attacked there as well - shacks were burnt down and shops looted. The violence has since spread to other areas.

BBC?s correspondent in Johannesburg said the attacks have prompted soul searching among South Africans.

Nelson Mandela, former president, had expressed his concern, saying the country must not descend into what he called "destructive divisiveness".

Since the end of apartheid, millions of African immigrants have poured into South Africa seeking jobs and economic sanctuary.

But they have become scapegoats for many of the country's social problems - its high rate of unemployment, a shortage of housing and one of the worst levels of crime in the world.

PMP certified: I wish!!!

My recent efforts at blogging all ended up as a disaster cos of PHCN wahala. My UPS was bad and they just succeded in taking the light when I had about completed my posting and am not the type of person to labour all over again on the same issue. Writing for me is expression of self and whether it ends up on the blog or disappears into bits and bytes nothingness courtesy of NEPA, It fufills a purpose in itself: It makes me lighter!

Over the past few days, I have been exploring online options on Project Management training and becoming certified and I must say it has really been both a daunting and a confusing task. A lot of factors have to been brought into the decision making process:
  • Cost (yeah, thats numero uno)
  • Location
  • Availability
  • Scope
  • Technical Requirements (wondering if my beloved 300 meets the minimum requirements)
I have really been impressed by ESI's offerings and methodologies but still wondering if there are better offers out there my searches hasn't unearthed

Anyways, If you have a cool idea on the cheapest, fastest and easiest way on becoming a PMP, please drop me a comment

Ciao... till the next blogging season (whenever that maybe)

New Day

Am sure the title of this post would not surprise those who have been regular visitors to my blog. I have always promised to be more consistent when it came to blogging but I've come to realize that I do prefer to read other people's blogs rather than write. And the whole thing about writer's block; I actually think "writer's block" is my middle name.

One blog that has kept me hooked (actually two blogs) all this while are http://36inchesofbrownlegs.blogspot.com/ and http://www.lindaikeji.blogspot.com/. Actually Linda's blog is more of a gossip blog to me(what's more interesting than Aproko). 36 has a way of writing that is both exciting and straight
to the point though she doesn't post as regularly as I would have loved her to. Anyway, reading their blogs has given me the blogfever again and am craving for it so badly. So watch out for more daily loads of junk posts all in the name of blogging. If other people can do it, why cant I {|NLP and their Presuppositions|}(dem get two heads abi). Anyway all I seem to be doing at the office these days when no one is looking is read other people's blog.

Veering off, I just got an inspiration for the title for my next blog post (please don't steal ooo). Was talking to my colleague and he was curious to know about my new found craze for blogs and what the whole blogging brouhaha was all about. trust me and long grammar, I guess I left him confused after a long speech about social networking, web2.0 and blogging as a tool for social (& corporate) change (yeepaaaa!!!). Trust Naija man (and woman) anything that doesn't put some dough into your pocket is not worth trying. That was the summary of his (and her) response.
I happened to remember one of Fela's songs: Water...E no get Enemy!!! and It just struck me... Bloggers... We no get Enemy!!! SOunds cool. so as you can obviously conclude, that would hopefully be the title of my next post and perhaps the beginning of a new era of explicit expressions.

Sometimes, i really wonder the real reason why most people do blog. Craving Attention? Getting Noticed? Some information (even the ones wey no make sense) to pass along? A comfortable way to vent?
For me, I just love it when I post something out there and come back a few days later to discover that someone had taken their time to read it and even went ahead to drop a comment. I just get the feeling that.... have to go o (close of work). Probably continue this tommorrow but till then
Ciao and ...keep blogging.
before I leave, here are some interesting pics I came across while scrawling the net.

Lessons of the Square Watermelon

Japanese grocery stores had a problem. They are much smaller than their US counterparts and therefore don?t have room to waste. Watermelons, big and round, wasted a lot of space. Most people would simply tell the grocery stores that watermelons grow round and there is nothing that can be done about it. That is how I would assume the vast majority of people would respond. But some Japanese farmers took a different approach. If the supermarkets wanted a square watermelon, they asked themselves, ?How can we provide one?? It wasn?t long before they invented the square watermelon.
square watermelons

The solution to the problem of round watermelons wasn?t nearly as difficult to solve for those who didn?t assume the problem was impossible to begin with and simply asked how it could be done. It turns out that all you need to do is place them into a square box when they are growing and the watermelon will take on the shape of the box.

Square Watermelon

This made the grocery stores happy and had the added benefit that it was much easier and cost effective to ship the watermelons. Consumers also loved them because they took less space in their refrigerators which are much smaller than those in the US meaning that the growers could charge a premium price for them.

the square watermelon

What does this have do with anything besides square watermelons? There are a few lessons that can you can take away from this story which help you in all parts of your life. Here are a few of them:

Don?t Assume: The major problem was that most people had always seen round watermelons so they automatically assumed that square watermelons were impossible before even thinking about the question. Things that you have been doing a certain way your entire life have taken on the aura of the round watermelon and you likely don?t even take the time to consider if there is another way to do it. Breaking yourself from assuming this way can greatly improve your overall life as you are constantly looking for new and better ways to do things. This was one of the most difficult things for me to do because most of the assumptions I make, I don?t even realize that I?m making them. They seem perfectly logical on the surface, so I have to constantly make an effort to question them.

Question habits: The best way to tackle these assumptions is to question your habits. If you can make an effort to question the way you do things on a consistent basis, you will find that you can continually improve the way that you live your life. Forming habits when they have been well thought out is usually a positive thing, but most of us have adopted our habits from various people and places without even thinking about them. I have changed a large number of habits that I have had after taking the time to question them and continue to do so. Some of them I have know idea where they came from while others I can trace to certain people or instances in my life. It?s a never ending process, but by doing this, you can consistently strive toward making all aspects of your life more enjoyable instead of defaulting to what you have now.

Be creative: When faced with a problem, be creative in looking for a solution. This often requires thinking outside the box. Most people who viewed this question likely thought they were being asked how they could genetically alter water melons to grow square which would be a much more difficult process to accomplish. By looking at the question from an alternative perspective, however, the solution was quite simple. Being creative and looking at things in different ways in all portions of your live will help you find solutions to many problems where others can?t see them. I am not a creative person, but I?ve found that the more that you look at things from different perspectives, the more creative I have become. It?s a learned art and builds upon itself.

Look for a better way: The square watermelon question was simply seeking a better and more convenient way to do something. The stores had flagged a problem they were having and asked if a solution was possible. It?s impossible to find a better way if you are never asking the question in the first place. I try to ask if there is a better way of doing the things that I do and I constantly write down the things I wish I could do (but currently can?t) since these are usually hints about steps I need to change. Get into the habit of asking yourself, ?Is there a better way I could be doing this?? and you will find there often is.

Impossibilities often aren?t: If you begin with the notion that something is impossible, then it obviously will be for you. If, on the other hand, you decide to see if something is possible or not, you will find out through trial and error. Many of the lessons above are what I used to create my online income. As I?ve said many times, it?s not easy, but it?s certainly not impossible. Even for those of us that are not A-List Bloggers, creating a full time online income is quite possible as I have shown.

Take away the lessons from the square watermelons and apply them to all areas in your life (work, finances, relationships, etc) and you will find that by consistently applying them, you will constantly be improving all aspects of your life.

Found this interesting article after my blog post on my New Year Resolutions

10 Reasons Not To Make New Year?s Resolutions This Year

new year resolutionsBy Jeffrey Strain

While I know you?re probably putting together a list of New Year?s resolutions if you haven?t done so yet, I would ask that you stop. Don?t even bother. Boycott the whole tradition. Refuse to get suckered into a yearly game that gives the impression that it will help, but actually does you more harm than good. How do New Year Resolutions hurt? Let me explain the ways:

First and foremost, New Year?s Resolutions are nothing more than a delay tactic ? they are an easy way to delay something that you know you should be doing right when you decide that it should be done. If something is important enough to make a New Year?s Resolution about, then it?s something that is important enough to begin doing the minute you decide it?s that important. Learn to begin goals immediately once you have made the commitment to reach them rather than delaying them to some arbitrary date in the future.

Even worse, New Year?s Resolutions provide an easy cop-out. The problem is that most people never follow through with the New year?s Resolutions they make and everyone knows it. The result is that nobody will hold you to any resolutions you make because they don?t expect you to keep them. That means that at the first sign of difficulty, you are in an easy position to give up and nobody will say a thing. If you make solid goals, however, and announce them to friends and family not as New Year?s Resolutions, but as life changing goals, there is a completely different aspect to them. Especially if you ask for friends and family to support you in trying to reach them, it makes it much harder to quit and more likely you will work through those difficult stretches than if you simply make a resolution.

This leads to yet another problem of New Year?s resolutions which is that they are made without the proper preparation needed to succeed. The fact is, making changes to your life requires a lot of work, stamina and discipline to succeed. If you do not make the initial research and preparations on how you are going to make the goal succeed, you will likely never achieve it. Most New Year?s Resolutions are simply statements without any of the proper planning in place meaning that they are bound to fail.

When the proper planning hasn?t been done, New Year?s Resolutions are often unrealistic because they are so broad. Achieving goals is not an instantaneous result. You don?t get to the top of a mountain in a single step. It takes a lot of planning, effort and small steps along the way. No matter how much you wish, you aren?t gong to be able to wipe out all your credit card debt which has been building for years in a couple of months. You will need to work at it one step at a time chipping away at the debts one at a time. You would be much better off focusing on that first step toward the ultimate goal than the entire goal.

Another problem is New Years Resolutions tend to be absolute with little to no room for the obstacles that are bound to happen. This makes giving them up easy the first time an obstacle arises since they are often made as all or nothing statements where any deviation means you fail. Life, unfortunately, doesn?t make reaching goals without setbacks happening very often and why planning and taking small steps is so important. If there is no recourse on how to proceed when an obstacle occurs, then the goal will likely be abandoned instead.

Too many New Year?s Resolutions are also made for the wrong reasons. If you are 100% committed to accomplishing something, then it is a goal worth pursuing. If you are making a goal because it is something that you would like to change, but aren?t willing to put in the time and effort needed to make it happen, then it?s going to fail. For many, New year?s Resolutions are nothing more than things they wished they could change without having to make any effort. In order to succeed, you?ll need the passion that will only come from you firmly wanting to reach the goal. If you aren?t, it?s better not to make it until you are ready.

January is a terrible time to start your New Year?s Resolutions. Granted, there will likely never be a perfect time to begin, but the New Year can be one of the worst times to be making major changes. You?re tired after the holidays and instead of resting, you make drastic changes when you may not have the physical or psychological energy to make them work. Piling on resolutions with all of the other issues that need to be dealt with at the beginning of the New Year can make it that much harder for the goals to succeed.

This leads to another major problem which is that people make too many of New Year?s Resolutions all at the same time. Achieving the goal of getting your finances in order is a monumental task in itself, but making it work while losing 20 pounds, exercising an extra 2 hours a day, reorganizing your house and quiting smoking makes success impossible. It?s important to prioritize your goals and work on them as time permits rather than jumbling them all together at the beginning of the New Year.

Over time, New Years Resolutions have a negative impact on your motivation and success. When you make New Year?s Resolutions year after year and the resolutions fail year after year, it becomes easy to believe that the resolutions really can?t be accomplished. Instead of seeing that they have failed due to failing to take the proper steps to set the goals up, you only see failure time and again and many people simply give up on their goals entirely after awhile.

In the end, New Year?s Resolutions simply don?t work. Goals wrapped it up as New Year?s Resolutions lack the planning and commitment needed for them to work. If you have goals, take the proper steps of doing your research, setting up a step by step plan, measure your progress and make sure that you truly achieve what you set out to accomplish.

Here is a challenge you aren?t likely to see much at this time of year. I challenge you to not to make any New Year?s Resolutions for 2008. Instead, take the most important goals and begin laying the groundwork on how you can achieve them this very minute. That way when 2009 arrives, instead of rehashing the same New Year?s Resolution list you are currently thinking about, you will be checking off a list of goals that you accomplished in 2008.

Something to think about: How I Built A Six Figure Internet Income

copied from financialhack.com

You probably have never heard my name. You likely have never visited any of my websites or blogs. I don?t sell anything. I?ve never paid for advertising. I am not an A-List blogger and my website would still be considered quite small within its category. In all likelihood, you are a better writer than I am. You definitely know more about computers than I do. And despite all this, I take home a six figure income from the Internet.

While you will likely be disappointed to learn that there are no secrets or an easy path to this success, you will be encouraged to know that you can do the same thing I have if you really want to. If you want to succeed, you are going to have to work hard. Probably harder than you have ever worked before. But if you are willing to do this, you can make money. I?m the perfect example of ?if he can make money on the Internet, anyone can.?

I don?t do anything but write. I write a decent amount, but I am by no means prolific. There are many bloggers that produce much more content than I do. While I do know a lot about the subject matter I write about, all the information has, for the most part, all been self taught. So the question is why have I been able to make blogging and websites a full time job when many others who have better skills and talent than I haven?t?

I think a lot of it simply comes down to attitude. While it helps to have superior writing skills, that in itself isn?t enough to succeed. I won?t BS you and say that making money blogging is easy or simple. It?s true that some people get lucky and making money ends up being easy for them, just like there are lottery winners, but far more of the people who are making money simply appear to have been lucky. The truth is that they worked long hours to get where they are. While this is probably not a typical list of traits and skills that are associated with Internet entrepreneurship, I don?t think I would be where I am today without them:

Stubbornness: 90% of the game is not quitting. There is a lot of talent out there that simply doesn?t have the stamina, willpower and just plain stubbornness to keep going when the only two people reading your site are yourself and your (mom, dad, sister, brother, friend). A stubborn streak has helped me keep going even when it seemed that nobody knew that I existed on the Internet.

Most people quit because the success doesn?t come quickly or easy enough for them. It takes a substantial amount of work and dedication (likely much more than you ever imagined) just as it would take to make any business successful. Having a stubborn streak that made me refuse to give up has helped me clear numerous hurdles that could have easily stopped me dead in my tracks.

Passion: I love what I do and if you don?t love whatever you choose to write about on the Internet, you?re going to make it nearly impossible to succeed. In fact, I can say that I would be doing what I am doing now even if I wasn?t making a cent. I know because when I started I wasn?t and at that time there was no reasonable expectation that I would.

It takes time to make money on the Internet because people have to discover you. If I didn?t love doing what I?m doing, I would never have had the stamina to keep going. Passion let me spend long hours working on my site and blogs without realizing how much time I was actually devoting to them. Even with all those long hours, I still loved spending the time doing what I was doing above all the other choices I had.

Creativity: Working on the Internet will always pose unexpected problems and it will be essential to use creativity to help solve the numerous problems that are bound to arise along the way. The solution to the problems often won?t reveal itself right away. I have had to try new ideas including multiple failures until I hit on something that worked for what I was trying to accomplish. Being able to be creative and adapt has helped a lot in making everything work.

Self Motivation: If you want to find an excuse not to do something that you know needs to get done, but which you really don?t feel like doing, there are a lot of easy ones to adopt. You are your own boss and if you want to waste time, it?s easy to do. Since I work for myself, being able to motivate myself to keep writing and putting effort into my current projects when it didn?t always seem to be worthwhile to do so was essential. If I hadn?t been able to find ways to keep myself motivated at all stages of growing the site and blogs, none of these would exist today. It wasn?t always easy to keep going when it seemed there was no reward for the effort, but even during those times I found a way to motivate myself to keep producing material.

Vision: I don?t think I ever had a grand vision of where my writing would eventally lead, but I have always had a vision of where I wanted to go next. Instead of being at the bottom of a mountain and looking at the top and saying I wanted to get there, I started at the bottom and saw a step in front of me that I wanted to climb. From there, I found the next step. and then the next step. As the site and blogs have grown, I think I am beginning to look a wider, but that concentrated vision in the beginning was extremely helpful.

Time: I knew I was in this for the long haul from the beginning. In fact, when I started there wasn?t any platform out there for people to make money from content alone (adsense still didn?t exist). It never entered my mind that I would make a lot of money quickly, let alone ever. I felt that if I could produce good quality content and information for people that eventually it would be of value for advertisers and figured it was going to be years down the road. Had I assumed that I was going to make money in a short period of time, I would have been highly disappointed and probably quit long ago.

Voice: Everyone has their own voice and you need to use it. I have brought my own voice into my writing. While this may sound obvious, it has been been difficult to accomplish. I?m not the best writer in the world and I would even say that a good description of my writing style is ?common.? When I see other writers that put the words down so much more eloquently than I am able to do, I want to change my style. The few times I?ve tried this, it has been disastrous because it simply isn?t me. That is not to say that I don?t incorporate things that I see other writers doing that I like, but when I do this, I do it in my own style instead of trying to change mine to theirs.

Faith: Not faith in the spiritual sense, but that what you?re writing or creating is helpful to others. When I first began writing, I received little to no feedback because there just weren?t a lot of people coming to the site. I had faith that what I was creating was worthwhile and helpful to those few that did find their way to my writing. Having that faith will help you to keep going and creating content, and even more so when you do begin to receive positive feedback.

Help: I wouldn?t even be near where I am today without a lot of help along the way. When I first started out, it was brutal and downright frustrating trying to get the word out that my site existed. Over time, however, I was able to find other people that were in the same situation as we were and we banded together to help each other and our sites as best we could. There were also some slightly bigger and more established sites that took a chance on my potential and drive by helping us out when they could have very easily ignored us. I could have never done it on my own.

No Outside Life: You have to be willing to give up a lot of the activities and free time that you had before beginning the project. You have to be willing to put these other activities aside as you build your presence on the Internet, especially in the beginning. When I first started, I was working full time at another job. It was literally like doing two full time jobs at the same time. If you think your are going to be able to succeed only spending an extra hour or two when you can find the time, you will be sadly disappointed when the money doesn?t come.

As you can see, my list of what you need to be successful on the Internet doesn?t match up well with most of the others you have probably read. It certainly isn?t the ?quick and easy? success that seems to scream in every advertisement you see. I do, however, believe it?s a realistic list of what helped me get to where I am today.

For those that are hoping for directions on how to make easy money, I?m sorry if my list disappoints. What I can say is that the skills listed above are ones that every person has within them and so it can be done if that is what you want to do. What I can say is that even with all the work, disappointments and frustration, it?s also a wonderful experience along the way and the obstacles makes it that much more satisfying when you can say writing on the Internet is your full time job.

Hope it made some sense
